This site was completed and launched on 18 May 1999. It is the result of my efforts in learning HTML, one of the many things I enjoyed learning from the MA in Digital Media degree that I pursued at the University of Sussex, England. The primary focus of this website are the essays that I've written dealing with science fiction in its various forms, all composed while studying at Sussex and my previous institution, the University of Reading, where I obtained my BA in English Language and Literature.
The essays cover literature, film and television, and are largely influenced by literary, media and cultural theory. My early interest in science fiction started with Star Wars and Star Trek and there are three essays devoted to them. At university I had the opportunity to go into science fiction literature and write on varied themes, e.g. the fiction of Arthur C. Clarke and the science fiction film in the political economy of the New Hollywood. For a full list of the essays and their contents please click here or on the menu.
The related links page lists other websites that are related to the subject matter of the essays in some way, or are just of general interest in relation to SF.
The essays obviously do not reflect the views of the official creators of Star
Wars or Star Trek and are solely academic in their purpose. As a
visitor of this site you are welcome to read them and to use them for referencing
and research. In the latter case, acknowledgement where due would be greatly
appreciated...
